Cool places to get stuff done in outside home

Let’s be real, no matter where you will be working from, you will be still doing just that: working.

Working from home has definitely lots of advantages but in case you are just tired of it or you are starting to feel like you cannot avoid calling UberEATS or power napping every time you don’t feel like answering that email, this blog post is for you.

Sometimes all we need is a change of scenery to increase our productivity levels. There are a number of great places, though, where you can work outside home. Here you have a glimpse of some of them:

Public or private/member-supported library

This is your old-school option to make sure you focus on the stuff you have to do.

Libraries are THE place if you want a silent atmosphere, lack of distractions…and free WiFi. In order to use the mentioned internet connection – and in case you might want to borrow any books- you will just need a library card. Its obtention process is easy, fast and for free. Also, know that in Barcelona, the library card is super useful if you want to benefit from discounts in museums and in other cultural activities.

There is plenty of libraries in our city, so check your local options and find the one that suits you best. You can find public and private/member-supported libraries. In case you are lost, there you go – our favorite ones.

Let’s start with the public ones, those where only a library card is needed.

    • Biblioteca Pública Arús, a gorgeous 1895 library specialising in contemporary social movements, anarchism and freemasonry. It is worth a visit.

Location: Passeig de Sant Joan, 26, 08010 Barcelona (Eixample)

    • Biblioteca Sant Pau – Santa Creu, a beautiful historical building located in the Raval area since the 70′, where you will find a very large collection of books for all ages but especially for the little ones.

Location: Carrer del Carme, 47, 08001 Barcelona (Raval)

    • Biblioteca Montbau-Albert Pérez Baró, a very nicely designed library in the heart of Horta-Guinardó, highly recommendable to those who love the noir genre.

Location: Carrer de l’Arquitectura, 8, 08035 Barcelona (Horta-Guinardó)

    • Biblioteca Francesca Bonnemasion , a very centric little library where you will be able to work from different ambiances (private classrooms, common areas, individual armchairs) and you will find a wide and interesting collection of books about feminism.

Location: Carrer de Sant Pere Més, Baix 7, 08003 Barcelona (Ciutat Vella)

However, if you find public libraries to be too crowded for you, consider a private, member-supported library. Our chosen one:

    • Ateneu Barcelonès: this 150 year-old Catalan cultural association is an intellectual spot in the Gòtic area, where you will be able to enjoy of its silent and classical atmosphere, its important bibliographic collection and its charming interior garden café.

Location: Carrer de la Canuda, 6, 08002 Barcelona (Ciutat Vella)

Nowadays, many coffee shops in Barcelona offer Wi-Fi to customers. Whether there is internet or there isn’t (you can do a 2-hour internet detox) coffee shops are good places to work since you can drink that chai latte you love, have a tasty snack and loudly answer that phone call without being judged like in a library.

Barcelona is full of coffee shops, so here you have a selected handful:
